Session Redirection
Goldcast
Lead Designer
Background
Managing event timings was stressful for organizers, especially given the traditionally rigid approach to session management. Goldcast’s customers fell into two groups: those running only pre-recorded sessions, who could precisely schedule content, and those hosting live or mixed sessions, who often faced unpredictable timings and had to manually adjust schedules when sessions overran or ended early. To alleviate this burden, adopting a more flexible approach reduced stress for organizers and enhanced the attendee experience.
Project Highlights
Introducing Flexibility with Automatic and Manual Modes
To accommodate diverse event formats, we needed two modes: Automatic and Manual. Automatic Mode, suited for pre-recorded sessions, seamlessly transitions attendees based on start and end times. Manual Mode, designed for live or mixed sessions, gives organizers control to start and stop sessions as needed. This dual-mode approach empowers organizers with the flexibility to manage their event flow without sacrificing attendee experience.
Streamlined Session Redirection for Attendees
To reduce confusion during session transitions, I introduced automatic redirection from the current session to the main stage when a session ends. Attendees who do not manually select the next session are seamlessly directed to the next one in their track. This approach minimizes attendee effort and ensures that no content is missed, even if a session runs long or ends early.
Enhancing Organizer and Speaker Experience
I prioritized a user-friendly backstage interface where organizers can efficiently manage session transitions. The introduction of the ‘Practice on Stage’ button before a session goes live, along with a countdown timer when the session starts, ensures that speakers and organizers are prepared without disrupting the event flow. These features were designed with usability in mind, streamlining the live session management process.
