Recording With Confidence
Event marketers juggle dozens of moving pieces—and not every moment needs to be performed live. Pre-recorded content can deliver higher quality with far less stress, but only if creators have the clarity and guidance they need to record with confidence.
I led the design of Recording Studio to make creating high-quality content feel simple, guided, and confidence-inspired from the very first click.
Simplifying the path from recording to repurposing
Goldcast was built around delivering exceptional live events, but many customers needed a way to create polished content outside of the live environment. Without a native recording workflow, teams were relying on external tools—leading to inconsistent quality, fragmented processes, and extra overhead. Event marketers needed a guided, reliable, in-platform way to produce professional videos and audio without technical expertise or complex setups.
The goal was to streamline production, support collaboration, and deliver a cohesive end-to-end experience—enabling marketers and creators to produce professional, reusable content directly within the Goldcast platform.
Turning research insights into focus areas
To uncover pain points and validate the opportunity for a recording-focused solution, I conducted 7 user interviews with marketing and content teams and benchmarked against other leading tools like to understand where existing solutions excel—and where they fall short.
In user interviews, I focused on three key areas:
1. Current Recording + Repurposing Workflows
-
What tools teams use today
-
How recording fits into their broader content strategy
-
Where external tools introduce complexity or inconsistencies
2. Breakdown Points in the Workflow
-
Steps that feel confusing, time-consuming, or overly manual
-
Bottlenecks when coordinating guests, equipment, or file handling
-
Moments where recording becomes stressful or error-prone
3. Desired Capabilities in an All-in-One Solution
-
What would make recording feel simpler and more intuitive
-
Must-have features for planning, recording, and repurposing
-
Opportunities to streamline the end-to-end process inside Goldcast
Key Takeaways
Across interviews, one theme was unmistakable: current recording workflows are slow, fragmented, and full of unnecessary friction.
What we heard repeatedly:
-
Cumbersome video transfers and manual file management
-
Time-consuming editing steps spread across multiple tools
-
Constant tool-hopping just to record, refine, and upload a single piece of content
Teams wanted a single, integrated, streamlined environment that eliminates all the switching and manual effort—so they can focus on producing great recordings, not managing the process around them.
From our research, we were also able to clearly define who Recording Studio is for and how they’ll use it:
- Marketing Teams, Content Creators, Executives emerged as primary users
- Common goals: create, repurpose, and publish polished recordings
- Key use cases: on-demand webinars, branded content, and video podcasts
Designing Within the Framework
When I began designing Recording Studio, the goal was to create something new — but not unfamiliar. We wanted users to feel immediately comfortable, even as we introduced an entirely new workflow.
To achieve this, I anchored the experience in Goldcast’s existing event framework, reusing familiar layouts, navigation, and patterns where it made sense. At the same time, I introduced new recording-specific elements and interactions that supported a guided, creator-first workflow.
The result was a balance between familiarity and innovation: a recording environment that felt seamlessly integrated into the platform, yet purpose-built for planning, capturing, and refining great content.
Seamless End-to-End Workflow
- Unified three key areas: Goldcast Studio, Recording Studio, and Content Lab
- Enabled users to record, edit, and repurpose content without leaving the platform
- Aligned strategy and identified dependencies to deliver a smooth, end-to-end workflow
Prioritizing Features and Collaboration
Close collaboration with product and engineering was crucial to bringing this vision to life and ensuring that cohesion.
- Partnered with product and engineering to define v1 requirements and navigate technical challenges
- Maintained open communication and documented trade-offs early to stay aligned
- Balanced user expectations with development constraints to ship efficiently
Outcomes That Scaled Content and Impact
The impact of Recording Studio became clear as soon as customers began using it. By consolidating recording, collaboration, and content creation into one guided environment, teams were able to work faster, produce more, and deliver higher-quality experiences.
Measured Impact
